Caz was born in April 6, 2022. He came to the International Wolf Center in May 10, 2022 along with his littermate, Blackstone. They are both North American gray wolves (Canis lupus) with DNA sampling aligning them with wolves in the Yellowstone region.

Caz’s name was derived from a Celtic nickname for “watchful one” or “descended from the vigilant”. This initially described Caz’s personality, especially when it came to food. Caz is keenly aware of who possesses food and how he can strategize to acquire food. Despite his quest for food, Caz has been the smaller of the two pups since his arrival. Caz was 6.7 pounds when we met him as a 35-day-old pup on May 10, 2022, and was 45 pounds when he joined the Exhibit Pack on July 28th, and as a yearling he weighed 92 pounds. What he may lack in size, he makes up in attitude. Caz physically appears broader in the skull and muzzle than his littermate and appears to be more grayish in color.  However, this will continue to change as body size and coat color variations can occur until they reach full maturity between 18-24 months at which time, we expect to see his adult body weigh over 100 pounds.
