Utah at a glance

As in the rest of the West, gray wolves once existed throughout Utah but their elimination began shortly after European settlers arrived. However, in 2002, the first collared wolf seen in the state for many decades was captured and returned to Yellowstone National Park. Knowing that wolves would inevitably arrive in the state, Utah created a wolf management plan.

In 2020, a wolf did make its way into Utah. That wolf’s presence prompted a wealth of media coverage, including this story.
