MacKenzie is doing much better, although the right hip still continues to be favored. She has been far more relaxed as the construction across the road is moving towards indoor work. As I write this log, she is laying inside the denbox soaking up the first sun we've seen in days.

Written by Pups at One Year program participant: Pam Dolajeck & Lori Rhodes During the Pups at One Year program, Mackenzie interacted with participants frequently despite being very stiff on Saturday (6/4/05). She is showing her age, but still wants to greet visitors.

MacKenzie was enjoying a good visit from the wolf care staff, on her back getting a physical inspection, when Lucas and Lakota came over to check out her vulnerability. Even though she's old, she's not too old to spring up in defense. The construction noise has eased a bit, and MacKenzie is more relaxed.

Vitamins to all, noticed MacKenzie's left eye now has the same white haze that right eye has. Will contact the vet about this change and continue treating eyes with drops. It appears her vision is slightly impaired by these cellular growths.

Mackenzie was enjoying her daily brushing. For a wolf is important to shed in summer, and a little help from the staff is always welcomed. Specially with this hot humid weather. She spent the rest of the day inside the den box or underneath the shade.

MacKenzie continues to watch over the Exhibit pack, and she can often be observed pacing back and forth along the fence. She still rules the retired wolf pen, and enjoys the vantage point from her straw bed in the corner of the enclosure. She continues to do well.

Mac brought her half eaten deer leg to the fence, put it down (/w Lakota a few feet away still) and whined to the pups. After a few minutes she took her leg off into the woods. Observed by Nancy Jo Tubbs at "What's for Dinner Program"

MacKenzie is doing well. She seems to have settled into to possessing food in her corner of the enclosure. She has her own special straw bed and a few cache's she likes to defend. She is scheduled for a vet check in the near future to monitor the lipid deposits in her eyes, but everything looks good.

MacKenzie has always been a sun lover. Even before staff brought the straw in, she was settled in to soak up the rays. Her darker coat absorbs more heat than her gray littermates. She sure does know how to relax.

MacKenzie has had a great month. She has had no additional cases of eye irritiation and has been showing no sensitivity to light. I do notice her lying in the sun more often, something she was reluctant to do this summer. It's always a pleasure to greet MacKenzie, she's very social to the handlers. As I write this, I can see her in the retired pack, still laying in the sun on her straw bed. Her favorite day is when wolf care staff deliver new straw.
