Rowan was born on April 22, 2025. He and his littermate Cedar came to the International Wolf Center on May 3, 2025, at 11 days old, weighing only about 2 lbs. While both pups have a black coloration, Rowan has a lighter black coat color with more brown and gray tones. His muzzle appears broader in comparison to his brother’s. Rowan has a calmer personality overall.
The Wolf Care staff chose tree-themed names to celebrate the wolf pup’s special arrival on Earth Day (April 22).
Cedar: a coniferous tree found here in the north woods, symbolizing strength and resilience
Rowan: a type of mountain-ash; it has an Irish origin meaning “little red one”
