Rowan was born on April 22, 2025. He and his littermate Cedar came to the International Wolf Center on May 3, 2025, at 11 days old, weighing only about 2 lbs. Because they were born on Earth Day, we chose tree-themed names. Rowan is a type of mountain ash and it has an Irish origin meaning “little red one.” While both pups have a black coloration, Rowan has a lighter black coat color with more brown and gray tones. When we first met him he seemed to have some reddish tones too. His muzzle appears broader and longer in comparison to his brother’s. Rowan has a calmer personality overall but still enjoys wrestling with his brother and food guarding from Caz.

The International Wolf Center uses science-based education to teach and inspire the world about wolves, their ecology, and the wolf-human relationship.
