Conserving North Carolina’s red wolves

Since the 1940’s, U.S. Highway 64 has served as the gateway to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, carrying residents, visitors, families, and vacationers across the state’s coastal plain.
The highway passes through the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, home to black bears, white-tailed deer, river otters, bobcats, and includes habitat for the world’s only wild population of red wolves.
