Wisconsin gray wolf populations face new threats in heat of ESA changes

President Trump signed an Executive Order called Supporting America’s Ranchers Sept. 4, 2026, directing the Secretary of Interior to determine if gray and Mexican wolves have met recovery criteria for delisting or downlisting on the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The order also calls for legislative recommendations to remove or reduce ESA protections for wolves.
