Most of Minnesota’s gray wolf pups don’t survive first year, but population remains stable

Only about 30 percent of gray wolf pups survive their first year of life even though the wolf population in the region remains stable, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Minnesota.
The study was conducted from 2019 to 2025 in the Greater Voyageurs Ecosystem, a forested region surrounding Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota.
