The International Wolf Center is proud to announce the upcoming premiere of its latest exhibit, “Starvation, Adaptation and Survival—Insights from the Voyageurs Wolf Project,” which will open to the public on Friday, May 24. This engaging and informative exhibit will run through October 20 and offer visitors a unique look into the lives of wolves in Northern Minnesota.

Since its inception in 2015, the Voyageurs Wolf Project, led by researchers from the University of Minnesota, has been dedicated to studying the summer ecology of wolves in the vicinity of Voyageurs National Park. This exhibit showcases the project’s significant findings and insights gained from nearly a decade of meticulous research.

Grant Spickelmier, Executive Director of the International Wolf Center, expressed excitement about the exhibit, stating, “The Voyageurs Wolf Project team are not only outstanding researchers but also exceptional science communicators. This exhibit provides a rare opportunity for the public to gain a deeper understanding of wolves and their critical role within our ecosystems.”

The exhibit explores the challenges wolves face during the summer months, a period characterized by struggle, starvation, and adaptation. With their primary prey at peak physical condition, wolves must expend extra effort to feed themselves and their pups, often resorting to less conventional food sources. These aspects of wolf behavior and ecology are brought to life through compelling graphics by artist Kim Boustead, alongside footage of wolves captured by remote cameras.

Tom Gable, Project Lead of the Voyageurs Wolf Project, shared his enthusiasm for the exhibit: “Our goal has always been to unlock the secrets of wolf life during the challenging summer months. We believe this exhibit will immerse visitors in the experience of wolves, highlighting their resilience and adaptability.”

In addition to stunning visuals, the exhibit features interactive elements such as QR codes that allow visitors to access additional videos and information on their mobile devices, further enriching the educational experience.

The International Wolf Center invites everyone to explore this captivating exhibit and gain new insights into the fascinating world of wolves. Don’t miss the chance to dive deep into the findings of the Voyageurs Wolf Project and discover the untold stories of survival in the wild.
