SUMMARY
The International Wolf Center uses science-based education to teach and inspire the world about wolves, their ecology, and the wolf/human relationship.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Retail Supervisor positively leads the retail team in all aspects of the Retail Department, including the Wolf Den and online stores. They hire, train and supervise all Ely retail staff. They order retail supplies and products, oversee in-person admissions with the Interpretive Center Director, merchandising in the Wolf Den store, track and monitor sales statistics, oversee the maintenance of the POS and online shopping platforms and assist the Interpretive Center Director with the development of the annual budget. The Retail Supervisor collaborates with many IWC departments to ensure department success, developing quality products for sale and excellent customer service.
Wolf Den and Online Store Operations – 70%:
- Hire, train, and supervise permanent and seasonal retail staff.
- Prepare staffing plans and shift schedules.
- Purchase new products and reorder existing products throughout the year with approval from the Interpretive Center Director and Executive Director
- Work with the Marketing and Brand Manager to approve new retail items.
- Receive, tag and manage overstock of all retail products.
- Monitor sales and keep inventory current.
- Conduct monthly spot checks of inventory and complete yearly inventory of product in consultation with the Finance Director
- Maintain the web store, ensuring that product information, images and availability are up to date.
- Ensure effective merchandising of products both in-store and online.
- Work with local merchants to maintain inventory available for consignment and other sales as needed.
- Work with the appropriate departments to develop and approve products featuring our ambassador wolves for sale in-store and online.
- Oversee and implement all aspects of online sales fulfillment including orders, packaging, and shipping.
- Assist Interpretive Center Director with development of yearly Retail Department budget that optimizes revenue and controls expenses.
- Prepare and submit expenses and invoice vouchers monthly.
- Prepare and submit monthly POS reports.
- Work with computer and online systems to support store operations, including the POS system and online sales platform.
- Work with computer and online systems to process visitor admissions.
- Work with the Communications department to develop promotional plans for retail products included in email ads, ads for International Wolf magazine, and other materials as needed.
- Follow inventory and cash-handling policies and procedures as set forth by the Director of Administration and Finance
- Ensure adequate supplies are maintained for daily operations of the retail department – packing materials, bags, tags, etc.
Guest Experience – 25%:
- Ensure the highest level of professionalism and exceptional customer service is provided for all International Wolf Center visitors.
- Ensure prompt, active interaction with guests – including greeting, helping, answering questions, and responding to complaints brought to retail staff.
- Direct daily workflow of retail staff to ensure accurate transactions, efficient operations, and a high level of service.
- Maintain accurate and clear signage in retail areas.
- Assist with collecting visitor information for transactions including admissions, IWC memberships, and monetary donations.
Other – 5%:
- Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned by the Interpretive Center Director
- Occasional travel is required to attend retail product shows, training, meetings, or events.
- Respond to email inquiries and phone calls.
- Enter and report on appropriate data as needed or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in retail sales
- Minimum of 2 years supervisor experience
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and self-awareness/assessment to communicate with co-workers, visitors and vendors.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor with visitors and co-workers.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, willing to handle concurrent tasks and make appropriate judgments and decisions.
- High level of initiative, self-motivation, creativity, and enthusiasm
- Able to follow directions and protocols.
- Ability to create, manipulate, and utilize spreadsheet, database, word-processing and email programs and utilize basic internet applications.
- Demonstrated computer software skills to utilize point of sale software and other computer software to develop, track and analyze customer data including budget development and implementation.
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of POS systems and on-line retail sales platforms
- Knowledge of customer service best practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Able to travel occasionally, sometimes in extreme conditions or remote areas.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings and some holidays.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend and carry/lift up to 40 pounds.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with no restrictions other than corrective lenses.
