If you are traveling by car from Minneapolis to Ely, note that it is about 240 miles, taking approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes.

  • Take Interstate 35 North to the Cloquet exit, Highway 33 (135 miles). You can choose to continue on Interstate 35 if you are interested in visiting Duluth and its attractions.
  • Take State Highway 33 North to Highway 53 (20 miles)
  • Take Highway 53 North to Virginia (40 miles)
  • Six miles north of Virginia take Highway 169 East to Ely (45 miles)
