Wolves After Dark – July

Have you ever wondered what happens after nightfall with the International Wolf Center’s ambassador wolves? Spend an evening learning about wolf behavior and watching the Exhibit pack’s weekly carcass feeding.  Participants actually camp out in the Center’s auditorium in full view of the wolves and help the Center’s wolf care team gain a better understanding of pack dynamics.

Minimum Age: 12 *must be accompanied by adult if under the age of 18
Location: International Wolf Center
Minimum number of participants: 4
Maximum number of participants: 16

Activity Level:  Extended time sitting at observation windows and sleeping on carpeted auditorium risers and chairs.

Package Includes:

  • Training in wolf behaviors by Wolf Care staff
  • An Interactive Ethogram -Wolf Behavioral Dictionary
  • Opportunity to gain advice and share experience in data collection
  • Photographic opportunities of the Center’s ambassador wolves

 


Program Itinerary
Note that outdoor activities vary with weather conditions and temperature.

The program starts at 5 p.m. on the dates listed. All participants are asked to meet Wolf Care staff at the Center’s auditorium window. You are encouraged to arrive early and check in with the Wolf Den Store where staff will have a list of program participants. As a program participant, you receive free admission to the International Wolf Center. You may want to use this time for self-guided exploration of our exhibits, to watch a wolf-themed movie in the theater, to participate in an interpretive program in the auditorium or for observation of our Exhibit Pack of live gray wolves. Friday

  • 5 p.m. – Meet at Center Auditorium- Greetings and Itinerary- store gear in classroom
  • 5:10 p.m. – Casual Dinner – Watch Highlights of the Ambassador Wolves DVD to gain a perspective on the Center’s captive     management history.
  • 6 p.m. – Ethogram Behavioral Codes training
  • 7 p.m. – Begin observing and recording data
  • 9 p.m. – Wrap up observation and set up for overnight

Saturday

  • 7:30 a.m. – Continental breakfast
  • 8:00 a.m. – Data Analysis and Report – Q and A on wolf personalities and associations
  • 9 a.m.  – The program ends.
